The fact is there are many "young adults" who have been "churched," but lack knowledge about some of the basics of Christianity... or at least they haven't retained it, or worse, they think they understand, but admit confusion and uncertainty. As Eddie Gibbs and Ian Coffey state in their book Church Next - quantum changes in Christian Ministry, "Regarding today's generation, which is wandering in a spiritual wilderness - or, more appropriately, getting lost in a spiritual jungle." Many of the younger post-Generation X (teens through 25) variously called "Mosaics," "Millennials," "Busters," or "emerging Christians," generally have a great difficulty in expressing their fledgling theology in a coherent, communicable and useful manner. As Tom Beaudoin explains in his book Virtual Faith, "...here is a generation that stays away from most churches in droves [after grade school] but loves songs about God and Jesus; a generation that would score low on any piety scale but at times seems almost obsessed with..." quasi-religious, mystical spirituality. They will search for a variety of models, locations, books, blogs, music, movies, and web sites; and listen yearningly to teachers, cultural media heroes, and even each other to find what they are seeking. I resist the temptation to recommend a solitary version that will give them satisfactory answers, as there is an assortment being tested, and some that are copied. REMEDY included!
